Investors have good reason to be excited about investing in LiquidPiston: They’ve patented the first major disruption to combustion engines in over 150 years.
That’s a big deal because internal combustion engines (ICEs) are the backbone of many things we depend on today. You can find them in cars, boats, ships, airplanes, trains, and generators, to name a few.. Nicolaus Otto built the first modern internal combustion engine in 1876 based on his pioneering Otto cycle. While modern engines have improved over time, they still rely on the same thermodynamics that Otto’s engine did.
LiquidPiston hasn’t just made a slightly better engine; they’ve patented an entirely new thermodynamic cycle, unlocking a design for a totally new kind of engine..
And you can invest in LiquidPiston even though they are still a private company.
To help you make an informed decision, here’s everything you need to know about LiquidPiston’s innovations and how you can invest.
LiquidPiston Solves The Problems Of Current Engines
Despite improvements over the years, combustion piston engines are heavy, gas-guzzling, and costly to maintain. The average motor engine has over 200 parts that need maintenance and replacement when they wear out. Plus, most engines can only run on one type of fuel, limiting their applications.
LiquidPiston is working on the solution.
Why LiquidPiston’s Solution Is Attracting Investors
LiquidPiston’s X-Engine™ is an internal combustion engine delivering up to 10X more power than a legacy engine of the same size. Plus, the X-Engine has just two primary moving parts and is fuel agnostic, which means it can run on everything from gasoline to jet fuel to even hydrogen.
This new innovative engine is built upon a patented High-Efficiency Hybrid Cycle (HEHC), whose properties include:
- High Compression Ratio: After fuel is injected and compression ignited, the air is compressed to a high ratio for maximum efficiency. The X-Engine uses spark ignition, which allows it to work with various fuels including gasoline, jet fuel, Diesel, propane, and even hydrogen, a fuel that doesn’t emit carbon into the atmosphere.
- Constant-Volume combustion: A dwell near the engine’s top-dead-center (TDC) gives more time for fuel and air to mix and forces combustion to take place at constant-volume conditions.
- Over-expansion: The combustion products are over-expanded using a larger expansion volume than the compression volume, which allows higher efficiency.
In non-engineering terms, the X-Engine is compact and lightweight – it solves the problems of a typical internal combustion engine without sacrificing its benefits. Leveraging the patented HEHC cycle, it can be up to 30% more fuel efficient than typical combustion engines.
What makes this such a compelling investment opportunity are the many uses of a small, powerful, and versatile engine like this.
The X-Engine can be paired with a battery to create a powerful hybrid system. Hybrid engines emit less carbon than gasoline engines and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. The idea is to use the X-Engine in cars, backup generators, manned aircraft, unmanned aerial systems, etc. That the engine can run on hydrogen makes it attractive for businesses, individuals, and government institutions looking to meet net-zero goals.
Why Invest In LiquidPiston?
Investing in LiquidPiston gives you exposure to its disruptive potential before its shares ever make it to the stock market.
And the potential is massive.
The global market for mobile power is expected to grow from $55 billion in 2022 to $74 billion in 2028. LiquidPiston can capture a significant share of the enormous yet growing market with its better engine design.
Because of its innovation, it’s disrupting more markets than that, from drones to generators. Right now, the US military is partnering with LiquidPiston to do exactly that.
LiquidPiston has been awarded over $30 million in contracts from various branches of the U.S. Department of Defense including the Army, Air Force, and Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA).
Just to mention a few – LiquidPiston won an Air Force contract in 2021 to use its X-Engine design for unmanned aerial systems, or drones. The smaller, more powerful engine is helping their drones fly 2X farther and takes fewer airmen to launch.
In 2022, it won a $9 million contract from the U.S. Army to design and build its engines for unmanned aerial systems, sea and air vehicles, and auxiliary power units (APUs). These contracts are intended to demonstrate the usefulness of LiquidPiston’s X-Engine. If they are successful, you can expect the U.S. military to award bigger contracts (and there are fewer institutions with bigger budgets to do that)

LiquidPiston also works with commercial firms, which represent another lucrative revenue stream outside the military. In total, it has gotten 14 military contracts and 4 commercial research & development contracts.
Who Founded LiquidPiston?
LiquidPiston was founded by father and son duo Nikolay Shkolnik and Alexander Shkolnik, who serve as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) respectively. The company is incorporated in the state of Connecticut and currently has over two dozen full-time employees. Their list of technical papers is long and comprehensive.
How Can I Invest In LiquidPiston Stock?
LiquidPiston is currently running a Regulation A+ offering that’s open to anyone. Shares of LiquidPiston stock are selling for $10 apiece right now.
The company intends to use the majority of proceeds to fund research & development and strengthen its manufacturing capabilities for engine assembly and testing. You can view the offering circular filed with the SEC here.
Like with all investments, there’s no guarantee of success. But, what’s clear is that LiquidPiston has shown promising results signaled by the multi-million dollar contracts from various arms of the U.S. Defense Department and commercial firms.
