Cloud communications company Twilio has announced that it’s acquired Electric Imp, an IoT startup based out of Los Altos, California. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. In its entirety, Electric Imp is known to have raised $44 million in total funding. The Los Altos-based startup was founded in 2011. Electric Imp offers a suite of products that helps enterprises to manage large hosts of connected devices and Twilio, a cloud communications company, apparently has a dog in this fight. The San Francisco-based company is acquiring Electric Imp to bolster its budding “internet of things (IoT)” business.
Investors in Electric Imp include the likes of Redpoint, Lowercase Capital, and Foxconn. Electric Imp is led by Hugo Fiennes, a veteran engineer who managed the iPhone hardware team at Apple and helped architect the first Nest thermostat. He has joined Twilio as a Senior IoT Architect thanks to the acquisition.
