CloudKitchens, the shared kitchens startup led by Uber co-founder Travis Kalanick, fell victim to an apparent arson in the city of San Francisco, as notified by a tweet from the usually secretive company. A CloudKitchens facility in San Francisco happens to have been purposely set on fire by an individual. The damage from the fire, however, wasn’t so severe, thanks to what CloudKitchens referred to as “the quick response of the SF Fire Department.” The fire happens to have mainly affected a wall at the facility, which CloudKitchens said it was ready to patch up in just a day.
At 4:52am on Monday a suspected arsonist entered our facility in San Francisco. He disconnected & destroyed the security cameras in the facility. A fire started in the facility prior to his exiting at 5:02am. This small fire was contained by the fire dept at around 5:17am— CloudKitchens (@CloudKitchens) June 10, 2020
Here is a photo of the damage. It was contained by the quick response of the SF Fire Department. Fortunately there was only minor damage to a single interior wall in the facility. Looking to have the wall patched and be back up and running tomorrow pic.twitter.com/GMKxVAOVyf— CloudKitchens (@CloudKitchens) June 10, 2020
CloudKitchens says the local Police have opened up an investigation into the matter. A photo of the arson suspect who happened to have been caught on camera before proceeding to destroy the manned security camera was also released by CloudKitchens. In the footage, the suspect sports a purple hoodie and nose mask which obstructed most of the person’s face.
CloudKitchens happened to have suffered not one but two fires, the second of which occurred in the evening time (the first occurred in the morning). What led to that fire wasn’t revealed, with CloudKitchens stating that it had “been contained with very limited damage and nobody was hurt.”
This evening Tuesday around 8:50pm, there was another fire at the same facility. The fire has been contained with very limited damage and nobody was hurt. We thank our first responders for their work— CloudKitchens (@CloudKitchens) June 10, 2020
