Indonesian ridesharing unicorn and the country’s most valuable startup Go-Jek has now been reported to be in talks of raising at least $2 billion in a new funding round to accelerate international expansion.
The report from Bloomberg states of the company planning to close this round in several weeks citing a source with direct knowledge of the matter in what would add to its already vast amount of capital raised which comes at about $2.1 billion.
The Jakarta based company previously raised $1.2 billion May last year in a Tencent led round in what marked one of the largest funding rounds ever for a SE Asian startup and on the global scene in total.
Go-Jek which initially focused on ride-hailing has since expanded its reach into other on-demand services including bill payments, food delivery, purchase of movie tickets and same day delivery.
It has made 8 acquisitions since 2016 as part of its expansion process which has also seen heavy resources poured into its network to enable vast growth.
Just recently, Go-Jek marked its first full international expansion with the company launching a service in Vietnam under the “Go-Viet” brand which has seen over 1.5 million downloads and 25,000 driver signups since the initial pilot 6 weeks ago.
The company’s last round reportedly valued it at $5 billion so an up from that is expected with a new round.
