Truecaller, the popular caller-identification and management smartphone app, has said that it’s amassed 250 million monthly active users and 200 million daily active users, cementing its status as one of the most used smartphone applications globally. As of February this year, Truecaller reported having 200 million monthly active users, implying that the company added 50 million more users within the months of February to October.
Truecaller has grown rapidly since its inception 11 years ago and is on track to hold a public offering within the next two years. The company is based out of Sweden, from where it’s raised just shy of $100 million in equity funding from a group of venture backers both in and outside Europe such as Atomico, Access Partners, and Sequoia Capital India. Coinciding with Truecaller’s announcement of eclipsing 250 million monthly active users is its appointment of a new Chief Operating Officer (COO) by the name of Fredrik Kjell, who is joining from online gambling company Kindred Group where he served as Chief Product Officer.
Truecaller is popular in many parts of the world but particularly draws most of its users from India. The widely-used smartphone app proves useful in helping phone owners to identify and block spam calls or text messages. Normally free, Truecaller makes money with a freemium model by charging users for enhanced features.
