Sound Ventures, a venture capital firm founded by Hollywood veterans turned investors Guy Oseary and Ashton Kutcher, is seeking to raise $150 million for a new fund as indicated by paperwork filed with the US Securities and Exchanges Commission (SEC).
Sound Ventures’ paperwork shows that it’s seeking to raise up to $150 million for its new fund but hasn’t taken any commitments yet. The $150 million target is notably the same amount that Sound Ventures closed for its most recent fund in 2018.
Sound Ventures was founded in 2015 by a team of Ashton Kutcher, a famed movie star, and Guy Oseary, a talent manager that had clients including Madonna and the U2 band. The firm was a successor to A-Grade Investments, a venture capital firm that Kutcher had previously set up together with Oseary and the billionaire investor Ron Burkle.
Before founding Sound Ventures, Kutcher had long dipped his hand into the tech industry even as he maintained a storied Hollywood career. He had previously been part of the management team at Ooma, a Voice-over-Internet-Protocol (VOIP) company that went public in 2015.
Kutcher also previously served as a Product Engineer at the PC manufacturer Lenovo.
Sound Ventures has backed dozens of companies including notable ones like SentinelOne, the cybersecurity company; Moovit, an e-mobility company that Intel paid $900 million to acquire in May; the insurance company Lemonade which went public this year; and Chainalysis, a cryptocurrency investigation and compliance solutions provider.
Apparently, Sound Ventures is now seeking a new $150 million fund to continue investing in companies.
