According to a Saturday report from South Korea’s Maeil Business Newspaper, automaker Hyundai and China’s Tencent have entered a deal to develop software for self-driving vehicles, with plans to conduct joint R&D on security and safety systems for driverless vehicles.

The report — which cites unnamed industry sources — says that Hyundai is seeking to roll-out the self-driving software by 2030. The agreement was said to be signed as a secondary move at a busines forum held in the Korean capital of Seoul by the country’s government and China’s Guangdong province.

Both parties are exploring methods to leverage Tencent’s widely used WeChat messaging app in developing car models targeted at the Chinese market, the newspaper noted. Tencent has ventured into the driverless vehicle market and notably advertised to enlist engineers in Silicon Valley last year.

Just recently, Japanese automaker Toyota inked a deal with Nvidia to work on self-driving cars. Germany’s Daimler and China’s Geely also recently reached a deal to work on electric vehicles.
