As recently announced by Airbnb, the company now hosts six million listings worldwide, with half a billion total guest arrivals at these listings projected by the end of Q1 2019. This is above that of its close competitor, Booking.com, which counts 5.7 million ‘alternative properties’ listings as of December 2018 (alternative, being that the company is known for hotel bookings and not home listings like Airbnb).
Other key stats recently announced by Airbnb include :
- Latin America, Asia Pacific and the Middle East and Africa now making up more than 30% of its listings, up from 15% in 2014.
- Over 900 cities with more than 1,000 listings now on its platform.
- Over 14,000 tiny houses, over 4,000 castles and over 2,400 tree houses listed on its platform.
- Roughly 3% of all active listings in New York City, London, and Paris (down from more than 10% in 2014, indicating growth in other regions.)
- More than 16,000 guest arrivals during the recent Super Bowl week in Atlanta, with more than 1,200 hosts recording their first ever booking during this period
