Paradox, an Arizona-based conversational artificial intelligence startup, has announced it’s closed $40 million in Series B funding, which was led by Brighton Park Capital, a Connecticut-based tech-inclined private equity firm. It seems like Brighton Park provided all of the funding, as no other investor is mentioned in a press statement from Paradox.
Paradox created a flagship artificial intelligence assistant called Olivia, aptly named after the company’s co-founder Olivia Matos. Olivia, the AI assistant, is designed to automate HR-centric work such as screening, scheduling, onboarding, and employee communications. Arizona-based Paradox has courted more than 200 enterprise customers including big names like Unilever, Intel, CVS Health, and McDonald’s. The company, which was founded in 2016 by couple John and Olivia Matos, currently employs more than 140 people.
Under the terms of Brighton Park Capital’s investment, its partner Mike Gregoire has taken up the role of chairman of Paradox’s board. Gregoire is best-known for previously holding the position of CEO at software powerhouse CA Technologies. He also previously led Taleo, an HR software company that Oracle paid $1.9 billion to acquire in 2012. Gregoire also holds a board seat at chip giant AMD.
