Snap, the parent firm of the popular Snapchat app, has launched a new feature named Spotlight that very much seems like a competitor to the popular TikTok. The new feature is one that’ll offer curated Snaps from Snapchat users all in one place, whereas Snapchat says that it’ll distribute over $1 million everyday to users who create the top Spotlight Snaps through the end of this year and possibly beyond.
Basically, Spotlight functions like TikTok or Facebook’s Reels whereby curated videos tailored to each user’s patterns are delivered in a single place. To promote the service, Snap is offering big monetary rewards which it pegs at over $1 million daily.
Spotlight has been made available in the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and France. Snap says it’ll launch in more countries over time.
Snap has created a seemingly smart competitor to TikTok that’s baked into its very app. Such service could drive hefty growth for the company, which is just fresh off a very strong quarter whereas its revenue grew 52% year-over-year.
Notably, Snap recently acquired a fairly popular UK-based social music app named Voisey. The acquisition may have played a role in the launch of its new Spotlight feature, given that Voisey is a social app that works similar to TikTok.
