Software firm AnchorFree closes $295 million investment from WndrCo and others

Mountain View based VPN software firm AnchorFree has now raised $295 million in a funding round led by consumer tech focused holding firm WndrCo with participation from the likes of Accel, 8VC, SignalFire and several other VC firms.

This brings the total raised by AnchorFree notable for its flagship app Hotspot Shield to over $350 million marking it as one of the most funded startups in the consumer software space. Hotspot Shield currently counts 650 million users across 190 countries and also includes an enterprise focused offering marking a good revenue generating base for the company.

Prior to this round, AnchorFree has garnered funding from the likes of RENN Capital, Several notable individual investors and Goldman Sachs which led a previous $52 million round.

WndrCo founding partner and renowned media mogul Jeffrey  Katzenberg will be joining AchorFree’s board along with fellow founding partner Sujay Jaswa and Accel’s Sameer Gandhi as part of this deal. Jaswa is taking the role of Chairman at the company.

AnchorFree recently launched its Hotspot Shield for Business service which allows businesses to better secure their data on public WiFi and communicate and access their work more securely on the net. Also according to the company, It’s products are being downloaded more than 250 thousand times a day which stands as a remarkabe statistic for its service.
