On the 30th of October, Honda debuted the Honda Rugged Open Air Vehicle concept at the 2018 SEMA Show in Las Vegas and brought what combines elements of two Honda vehicles from different genres, Honda’s Ridgeline pickup and its Pioneer 1000 side-by-side vehicle.

Developed and designed by Honda R&D Americas, the new concept stands as a physical thought exercise of what the true off-road Honda four-wheeled vehicle could be like. It merges the utility of the Ridgeline pickup with the off-road ruggedness and styling of the Pioneer 1000.

The concept makes use of existing Honda components such as modified Ridgeline body and suspension and customized Pioneer doors as well as custom designed bed and tailgate panels modeled after the Pioneer. The interior based on the Ridgeline is tailored for life exposed to the outdoors and includes a Pioneer 1000 steering wheel adapted to the Ridgeline steering column.

Other notable features include Civic Type R seats reskinned in waterproof Pioneer 1000 material, durable paint-on surfaces for protection of the instrument panel from external elements and smartphone holders from RAM Mounts.
