Taiwanese hardware manufacturer Acer has added several new products to its line-up which were unveiled at the on-going IFA conference with the company introducing a new notebook, an update to its Swift product lines and also a Windows Mixed Reality headset.

The new OJO 500 Mixed Reality Headset brought by Acer is the first in the Windows lineup to feature a detachable design with a lens and head strap capable of being removed when not in use making the product more easier to store and clean.

Its patented integrated audio system direct sounds from the headset’s built-in speakers to the ears of the user for a truly immersive experience with an option of leaving it open to external sounds if one wants to stay aware of his/her surroundings.

With users wanting to take on various interactive experiences with mixed reality headsets, The OJO 500 comes with over 2,500 games and applications available on both the Steam VR and the Microsoft Store platforms where they can be downloaded.

The new headset includes a built-in interpupillary distance (IPD) wheel and a smartphone app to measure the gap between the eye’s pupil and the display for delivery of effectual use. The measurement app lets the wearer modify the evaluated distance to enable sharper and clearer images for a more enjoyable experience.

It’s two front-hinged 2.89-inch high-resolution liquid crystal displays output a 100 degree field of view at a 2880 x 1440 resolution with a fast refresh rate of up to 90HZ which deliver seamless and realistic images to the user.

The 6-degrees of freedom positional tracking includes forward/back, up/down, left/right as well as pitch, yaw and roll for smooth usage, It’s 13 foot cable allows for a wide movement range and connects to a PC via HDMI 2.0 while a USB 3.0 connector on the device handles download of data.

Featuring inside-out tracking, This new headset connects to a Windows Mixed Reality-ready PC and installs the required software as soon as connection is made with an initial setup time of about 10 minutes.

“The Acer OJO 500 brings several significant new features to this class of Windows Mixed Reality headsets,” said Andrew Chuang, General Manager, Presence Computing and IT Products Business for Acer. “We’ve improved the user experience with innovative visual and audio technologies and made the headset more comfortable and easier than ever to use.”

An optional configuration for the headset includes two Bluetooth-enabled motion controllers that sync with it and also a Windows 10 button, touchpad and grab button which enables users to interact with digital objects.

Scheduled to be available starting from November, It’ll retail at a starting price of $399 in both the U.S. and European regions.
