Apple has announced a new commitment for its entire business, manufacturing supply chain, and product life cycle to be carbon neutral by the year 2030. To make good with the plan, Apple plans to reduce its global emissions by 75 percent and develop carbon removal solutions for the remaining 25 percent by 2030. The company is establishing an “Impact Accelerator” that will focus on investing in businesses that drive positive — as regards to climate — outcomes for its supply chain.
Before now, Apple, which has massive operations globally, had actually been one of the companies at the forefront of adopting renewable energy and carbon-neutral solutions. By 2018, the company had 25 renewable energy projects and said that its own business ran entirely on renewable energy. Right now, the company is apparently dragging its entire supply chain and product life cycle into the same situation.
Among actions that Apple says it will take (or has already began taking) to become entirely carbon neutral include manufacturing its gadgets with recycled materials, instituting better recycling practices, investing in energy efficiency projects, instituting supply chain partnerships, and working with climate change and conservation organizations.
