Ride-hailing company Lyft has committed to all vehicles on its platform being electric by the year 2030. The company announced the commitment in a recent blog post, a commitment that’s being made in regards to global climate efforts. “Switching to electric vehicles is not just good for the planet; it’s good for people – riders, drivers, and the communities they serve.  By helping to solve one of the biggest pieces of the climate challenge, we believe we can provide direct economic benefits to rideshare drivers and environmental benefits to communities most heavily impacted by smog and asthma,” Lyft said in a press statement.

Lyft’s commitment seems grand, as 2030 represents only a decade away. The company, which has more than 2 million drivers, would apparently have to work hand-in-hand to make such a commitment come to fruition. “Reaching 100% won’t be easy, but we’ve already begun the work needed to get there,” the company aptly noted in its press statement. Lyft is the first known major ride-hailing platform to commit to an all-electric fleet in future time. As the company notes, it’ll provide periodic updates to the public on the progress of its commitment.
