Tech giant Apple has now re-hired its former VP of Mac hardware from Tesla which he left to five years ago to become its chief vehicle engineer with Field now returning to the Cupertino based company to reportedly work on its secretive “Project Titan” self-driving car project.
According to an piece from Daring Fireball, Field will work with Apple executive Bob Mansfield on its self-driving car project which has been sort of a mystery as public information on the initiative has been very limited.
Apple had reportedly scaled back the secretive project from its initial span with hundreds of employees leaving the division with Apple said to be focused on seeking automobile partners for use of its self-driving software.
Doug notably began his career as an engineer at Ford before landing at Apple where he led development of many products including the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and iMac.
Employees are known to frequently make moves between Tesla and Apple with this move by Doug speculating of Apple’s interest in producing vehicles itself although this hasn’t been officially confirmed.
