Facebook has agreed to pay a total of $650 million in a class-action lawsuit over the company’s unauthorized use of facial recognition technology on users in the U.S. state of Illinois, as indicated by a new court filing. The fine is notably up from a previously agreed $550 million to be paid by Facebook over the case. Apparently, it seems the courts were not satisfied with the agreed settlement and decided to top it with an additional $100 million.

The settlement, which represents one of the biggest privacy violations payout to date, covers any Facebook user in the state of Illinois whose picture appeared on the site after 2011. According to the new court filing, affected users can expect to receive between $200 and $400 each from the settlement depending on how many people file claims.
