Mercedes Benz parent firm Daimler has partnered with Austrian blockchain startup Riddle & Code to produce a hardware wallet for vehicles. Such wallet is similar to a crypto wallet used to store digital transactions and tokens, but in this case has potential to store and exchange secure traffic data between vehicles. This is a good use case in services ranging from car sharing to self-driving vehicles, and auto insurance/payments.
For example, insurance companies could use the wallets to verify data as evidence in the event of an auto accident. Toll and parking payments could also be easily made on the blockchain. Vehicles could also communicate with each other using such wallets, avoiding congestion in the process.
Riddle & Code has developed technology for protected blockchain identities and aims to apply this to various use cases. The Austrian startup isn’t targeting automobile use only, having set its sights on blockchain solutions for energy, IoT, fintech, logistics and more.
