Discord has announced it’ll begin splitting revenues with game developers (90/10)%, meaning developers who publish titles on its store will get 90% of revenue as compared to the conventional 70/30 split. Starting next year, games no matter what size, from AAA to single person teams developers will be able to self-publish on Discord’s new store and keep a lion share of generated revenue.
Discord which now has 200 million users will also improve its Verified Servers, stretching its ability to add great content to the user’s Activity Feed. “We believe if we iterate and work with developers, we can reverse platform fragmentation in the game industry while connecting developers and players closer together.” A Discord post announcing this move read.

“After doing some research, we discovered that we can build amazing developer tools, run them, and give developers the majority of the revenue share.” Discord said. “The remaining 10% covers our operating costs, and we’ll explore lowering it by optimizing our tech and making things more efficient.”
This move comes just after Fortnite developer Epic set up its own store offering an 88/12 split for game developers to challenge dominant player Steam. Discord’s split will offer the highest revenue split yet for a top store in the competitive gaming industry.

“We will continue to focus on what’s brought 200 million people to Discord so far — top tier voice, video, and text chat. We’re constantly working on making Discord better, faster, stronger, and we have a slew of features coming out in the next couple weeks to months” Discord said in its post.
