Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has announced it shipped 59 million smartphones in the first quarter of this year. The company made this known while declaring its Q1 results, indicating it recorded 179.9 billion yuan ($26.8 billion) in revenue for Q1 2019, up 39% from last year. 8% of that amount was recorded as profit, a slightly higher percentage than the same period last year.
Huawei also revealed it had signed 40 contracts for 5G deployment and had shipped more than 70,000 5G stations worldwide as of March this year. The company also claims it had shipped more Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) products than any other company globally.

This result comes amid scrutiny of Huawei from the U.S. and EU alike. A recent CIA report claimed that Huawei receives funding from Chinese state security. This added to a long list of allegations against the company that includes theft of intellectual property, violation of sanctions, and obstruction of justice.
Earlier this year, Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou was arrested in Canada with an extradition request pursued by the U.S. She was later released on bail in Canada with an agreement to not depart from the country. Wanzhou is scheduled to appear in court on the 8th of May for an extradition hearing.
