Instagram is making new moves in a bid to boost security on its platform as more users adapt its service with a safer environment being of positive interest to both parties. Just today, Instagram co-founder and CTO Mike Krieger detailed in a new post of three important steps its taking to offer a more secure platform for its 1 Billion global users.
The social media service is launching a new feature to help users evaluate account authenticity in addition to introducing a global verification form for notable public figures and an improved two-factor authentication system which makes it easier and safer for users to securely log onto the platform.
In coming weeks, Users would be able to see more information about accounts on Instagram which get to large audiences to evaluate authenticity through an “About This Account.” button to be accessed through a menu popping up after a click on a profile.
By September, People who have accounts which reach large audiences would be able to review the information about their accounts to be made publicly available after which this feature will be rolled out to the global community.
Instagram is also enabling a new way for accounts interacting with large audiences which meet criteria to request verification through a form on its app in a bid for more authenticity surrounding public figures, celebrities, global brands and entities.
In addition to this, It’s also enabling login to Instagram through third-party authenticator apps bringing a form of two-factor authentication which makes for easier and safer access to its service.
Users would get the option of “Two-Factor Authentication.” along with that of a preferred “Authentication App” to be selected. Support for this has began to roll out and will be made available to the global community in coming weeks.
“I founded Instagram alongside Kevin nearly eight years ago, and we care deeply about this community and the people who are part of it. We’ve been focused on the safety of our platform since the very beginning, and today’s updates build upon our existing tools, such as our spam and abusive content filters and the ability to report or block accounts.” Mike Krieger stated.
“We know we have more work to do to keep bad actors off Instagram, and we are committed to continuing to build more tools to do just that.”
