South Korean fintech Viva Republica (the company behind the Toss app) has hit unicorn status with an $80 million round led by Kleiner Perkins with participation from Ribbit Capital and other existing investors which values the company at $1.2 billion.
Viva Republica has now raised nearly $200 million in total funding. It expects sales of around $50 million this year, more than double that of last year when it recorded $18 million in sales.

Since its launch 3 years ago, Toss has grown into a financial services platform that enables easy management of user’s financial activities like money transfer, credit card insurance, savings and loans and peer-to-peer investment services. It counts more than 10 million users and $24 billion moved on its platform so far.
Toss plans for further growth with moves like the establishment of an insurance agency subsidiary to change the insurance experience for consumers and other products to solidify its position as a platform for lots of financial services.

Other notable investors in Viva Republica include PayPal, Qualcomm Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, Alto Ventures and Goodwater Capital.
