Marissa Mayer, the former Chief Executive Officer of Yahoo and earlier in her career one of the first hires at Google, has launched a new startup three years after leaving her last big-time position as Yahoo’s CEO. She’s announced Sunshine Contacts, an iOS app that scrapes data on a user’s phone to organize contact information seemingly better than the usual way it’s done.
The new app is for now available by invitation only. Mayer has secured $20 million in funding including her own money to launch the app together with another co-founder, Enrique Muñoz Torres who was previously a Senior Vice President at Yahoo and also earlier worked at Google just like Mayer.
With Sunshine Contacts, users can automatically pull data from multiple sources on their phone to ensure their contact list is up-to-date and in one place. The app touts features such as better organized contacts with more thorough information, smart sharing using colocation and proximity detection, and of course artificial intelligence.

Sunshine originates from Lumi Labs, a startup incubator that Mayer set up shortly after leaving Yahoo. Lumi Labs has now rebranded entirely as Sunshine and hopes to create a suite of consumer apps, the first being Sunshine Contacts.
The future holds for if Marissa Mayer can strike gold again after a successful career at Google and a quite tumultuous one at Yahoo. She’s based her startup in Palo Alto, California and in the very same building that once housed her former employer Google.
