Auto giant Mercedes has unveiled a completely new concept for on-demand, efficient, comfortable and sustainable mobility for users featuring an autonomous driving platform which can be fitted as required coming with a cargo module for goods transportation and a people-mover module for movement across locations.
It features battery-electric drive for zero local emissions and virtually noiseless mobility, concepts set within an intelligent, self-learning IT infrastructure for the continual analysis of transportation requirements, vehicle resources used to maximum effect and high economy, efficiency and flexibility for cities, mobility providers and users.

Dubbed Vision URBANETIC, The concept goes beyond already existing ideas in the autonomous driving space with an elimination of the separation between people moving and goods transportation. With a one base to rule them all, Autonomous movement will be made easier for city residents looking to set feet from one place to another.
Vision URBANETIC enables on-demand, sustainable and efficient movement of people and goods while applying an innovative approach to to fulfill the needs of cities, businesses, dwellers and travelers. This method is built on reducing traffic flow and relieving inner-city infrastructures while contributing to a better quality of urban life.

Based on a self-driving and electrically powered chassis which can be replaced by interchangeable bodies, Mercedes’ new concept comes with different styles consisting of a people-mover which can accommodate up to 12 passengers as a ride-hailing vehicle and a cargo module which can take up to ten EPAL pallets with its 3.70 m. (12 ft.) load space fitting into a total vehicle length of 5.14 m. (16.8 ft.).
In addition to this, It embeds an IT infrastructure which analyzes in real time the supply and demand within a defined area leading to a self-driving fleet with routes planned flexibly and efficiently on the basis of current transportation demands. This makes it a ground breaking concept in the field of autonomous driving which counts other major vehicle manufacturers looking to release very comfy and intuitive solutions for passengers.

With full networking, This concept learns from the evaluation of local information with its analysis leading to anticipation and reaction to future needs of the passengers. For example, It’s overall system can make use of the data captured by the vehicle control center which gathers and analyzes demands to identify a crowd of people gathering in a certain location. It can then send vehicles there to quickly and efficiently keep up with the increased demand with an ability to react flexibly as opposed to rigid routes or fixed timetables.
Mercedes is envisioning transporting more passengers and goods with less vehicles in order to relieve inner cities while continually growing mobility requirements and customer desires. This would lead to an improved quality of urban life with flexible and comfortable movement of people coupled with sustainable transportation of goods leading to a significant less in noise and pollutant emissions to bring greater freedom in city planning.
