Tanium, the cybersecurity company, has named Mark Fields, notably a former chief executive officer of American automaker Ford, as a new board member. Fields is joining Tanium’s board as the company’s lead independent director. Since stepping down from the chief executive position at Ford in 2017, Fields has served on several corporate boards and is apparently adding yet another.

“Mark’s operational acumen and extraordinary leadership saw Ford through three decades of change, including complete digital transformation,” Orion Hindawi, Tanium’s Co-CEO, said in a press statement. “His experience running large global companies, aptitude for operations, and customer-centric approach to innovation will help Tanium as we accelerate through the next phase of growth and expand our leadership in cybersecurity and information technology.”

Fields is an experienced executive with decades of experience in the business sector. Before becoming CEO of Ford in 2014 and serving in that position for three years, he served as chief executive of Japanese automaker Mazda and is credited with a turnaround of the company in the late 2000s. Before now, he’s also served as a board member at IBM. Currently, Fields is a board member at several technology companies including chipmaker Qualcomm.
