Ride-hailing service Uber has added another noteworthy feature to its app as riders and users of its UberEats food delivery service will now be able to pay for it using Venmo accounts in a new feature which will be rolling out in the U.S. in coming weeks for Uber’s app and will also bring Venmo’s renowned fare-splitting service to Uber payments.
Uber is now the largest service known to be making use of Venmo’s app and with this new feature is expected to lead to an upswing in the volumes of financial transactions made using Venmo which competes with Square’s Cash App, Digital payments service Zelle notable for being backed by 30 U.S. Banks and several other services.
Venmo was acquired by fintech start Braintree in 2012 and became part of PayPal when the fintech company paid $800 million for Braintree the following year.
Uber also supports PayPal as a payment method for its service whilst Venmo stands out for being widely used by millenials thanks to its payment sharing feature.
The ‘Pay with Venmo’ service now being adopted by Uber is also used in various other online retailers and food delivery service with Uber’s use now being a major addition to Venmo’s ecosystem.
Venmo has been expanding beyond its social payments core feature in recent times with the company just last month unveiling a Mastercard debit card service and also notable for previously enabling a Venmo for merchants feature which made it available outside the sole consumer user base.
With $12 Billion worth of transaction volume in the first quarter of this year, We’ll get to see how this new feature will add to the Venmo and Uber’s ecosystem as it gradually rolls out in coming weeks time.
