The 360c autonomous concept is based on a fully autonomous vehicle not in requirement of a human driver with a re-created experience of how passengers engage with friends, family and contacts and also productively make use of time during while on the move.

Volvo’s introduction makes efforts on one of the main challenges surrounding autonomous technology with a calling for a new set standard on how self-driving vehicles safely communicate with other users.

The company touts safety as a key part of this concept with autonomous driving potentially delivering a very significant improvement in traffic safety since Volvo’s introduction of the three-point safety belt in 1959.

Autonomous tech is set to be rolled out gradually as part of efforts to integrate fully with society with automobile companies taking on major efforts to double down on this change. With the 360c, One would be able to take a first class cabin to and fro various destinations with super high comfort and efficient productivity.

“The 360c explores what becomes possible when we remove the human driver, using new freedoms in design and recapturing time – it’s a glimpse at how autonomous drive technology will change the world as we know it. The possibilities are mind-boggling,” said Mårten Levenstam, senior vice president of corporate strategy at Volvo Cars.

“People becoming less reliant on proximity to cities is just one example of the impact of removing the burden of unproductive travel time,” He added. “The 360c driving office makes it viable for people to live at greater distances from crowded cities and use their time both in a more pleasant and more effective way.”

Presenting four potential uses of autonomous vehicles, a sleeping environment, mobile office, living room and entertainment space, The 360c packs all these into one re-imagined and innovatively designed concept stemming from a leading automobile brand.

It envisions a range of new potential customer groups for Volvo’s business while also considering possible implications for the future of city planning, infrastructure and modern society’s environmental footprint.

“We regard the 360c as a conversation starter, with more ideas and answers to come as we learn more,” Mårten Levenstam said. “Yet we believe fully autonomous drive has the potential to fundamentally change our society in many ways. It will have a profound impact on how people travel, how we design our cities and how we use infrastructure. But we are just one of many stakeholders, so we expect and invite a broad discussion as society learns how to make the most of this revolutionary technology.”
