Newly appointed GM president Mark Reuss

With Dan Ammann leaving for a role as the CEO of its autonomous vehicle unit, General Motors has named Mark Reuss who serves as the leader of its Global Product Group and Cadillac unit up until now as its new president. The automaker announced this Thursday of the new appointment which sees Reuss who counts a long career spanning over a decade at GM taking up this new role.

Reuss was first appointed executive director of GM’s Performance Division in 2001 and took up other roles including managing director of Australasian General Motors and senior product development director. His father notably, Lloyd E. Reuss was president at GM from 1990 to 1992.

“Mark’s global operational experience, deep product knowledge and strong leadership will serve us well as we continue to strengthen our current business, take advantage of growth opportunities and further define the future of personal mobility,” GM CEO Mary Barra said in a press release. “Mark has played a critical role in leading the development of the company’s award-winning vehicles while transitioning his team to prepare for growing electrification and autonomous technologies.”

“I am very proud to have spent my entire career at General Motors, and to now take on this new role is truly a great honor. With our current lineup of outstanding cars, trucks and crossovers around the world, I’m looking forward to keeping our momentum going at full speed.” Reuss also said.

Reuss who serves as Executive Vice President, Global Product Development, Purchasing and Supply Chain at General Motors took up added responsibilities for Cadillac and global portfolio planning at the automaker June last year. He has since built an integrated product development and Cadillac unit to support accelerated production. Through 2021, new Cadillac vehicles will be churned out every six months as part of its growth plans.
