Airbnb has announced that it has acquired Urbandoor, a San Francisco-based corporate and extended stay rental booking and management platform. Financial details of the acquisition are not disclosed. Once the acquisition closes, all Urbandoor employees will join Airbnb. Airbnb’s acquisition comes four years after Urbandoor was founded.

Urbandoor just like Airbnb operates a marketplace for furnished accommodation, but focuses on corporate and longer-term rentals. Airbnb also does the same with the Airbnb for Work offering, but that’s just a part [albeit a significant one] of its entire business. Airbnb is mainly known for offering individual-oriented short-term rentals.

Airbnb’s acquisition of Urbandoor is a way to bolster the Airbnb for Work program, which already has more than 500,000 enterprise customers. Urbandoor’s corporate rental marketplace spans more than 1,500 cities in over 60 countries. Renters on Urbandoor’s marketplace are mainly owners of multi-family residentials who rent out their unoccupied inventory to relocating employees, traveling executives and corporate housing providers booking spaces for their own clients. These category of customers are usually in higher demand than individual renters.

With this acquisition, Urbandoor listings will become bookable through Airbnb’s own platform over time. “We started Urbandoor because we wanted to connect traveling and relocating professionals with the right apartment every time, anywhere.” Urbandoor co-founder and CEO Erik Eccles said in a statement.

“Joining the Airbnb family will help us make good on our goals and expand our work with multifamily and corporate housing partners to bring even more great places to stay to Airbnb travelers.” He said.
