Thrasio, a company that operates a collection of third party businesses and direct-to-consumer (DTC) e-commerce brands that sell primarily on Amazon’s marketplace, has announced that it’s raised a $500 million debt round that came from a group of investors including Goldman Sachs, Bain Capital Credit, BlackRock, Credit Suisse, and Oaktree Capital.
Thrasio raised the debt round as it closed a year (2020) during which it says it brought in over $500 million in sales and a profit of over $100 million.
It seems that buying up and expanding brands that sell on the Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) platform has proved very lucrative for Thrasio. As it looks, investors are drooling for the company, with it having now raised six consecutive funding rounds in the past 14 months.
Thrasio was founded in 2018 and just two years later in July 2020 became one of the fastest companies in the US to hit a $1 billion valuation when it closed a $260 million equity fundraise that month. As at that time, the company said it had $300 million in annual sales, a number that has boosted to $500 million in the span of a few months.
Thrasio is one of the biggest sellers on Amazon and has seen several other rivals of its kind join it in the operation of Amazon FBA brands. One such rival is Boosted Commerce, which closed an $87 million equity round in November 2020.
On Amazon’s marketplace, Thrasio owns nearly 100 brands that collectively sell around 14,000 items. It seems that investors are very confident with its business prospects, proven by a $500 million debt round provided to it by a group of investors that include some of the biggest names in Wall Street.
