Amazon has reversed the decision to block shoppers from accessing its international sites in Australia after backlash received from this which affected its launch in the Australian market. Amazon’s U.S. site comes with a much bigger range of products Australian shoppers grew accustomed to and purchased prior to the launch of a regional platform a year ago.
This July, The company began redirecting Australian users to Amazon.com.au and stopped shipping to Australian addresses from international warehouses after a new goods and service tax (GST) law which required retailers to collect a 10% tax on imports.

The legislation came with the intention of assisting Australian businesses compete with bigger international online retailers but made Amazon take the decision widely criticized by consumers in the country. Questions were raises about why Amazon had to take to a block regarding the tax law as opposed to resolving it without locking Australian shoppers out of international sites just like its competitor eBay did.
As per a company spokesman, Amazon is building the “complex infrastructure needed to enable exports of low-value goods to Australia and remain compliant with (Australian) laws” regarding its reversed decision which comes just in time for the Black Friday celebration which would test the country’s shoppers taste with the international site after a block for a while.
