Famed fast-food chain Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) is embarking on an ambitious mission to possibly ‘bioprint’ its popular chicken nuggets in a bid to create a “restaurant of the future”, and the company is working with a Russian 3D bioprinting firm for this, as made known by a recent announcement. KFC is basically trying to make the world’s first laboratory-produced chicken nuggets amid a steady increase in the demand for alternatives to traditional meat and the need for more environmentally-friendly food production efforts.

KFC says its possibly printed nuggets will be as “close as possible in both taste and appearance” to the original KFC product and also more environmentally friendly to produce. The company has tapped 3D Bioprinting Solutions, a Russian firm for its efforts, and says it expects to receive a final product for testing by fall of this year.
