Auto giant Daimler and engineering giant Bosch has set on a joint initiative to launch automated valet parking in Beijing bringing the tech which debuted last year at the parking garage of the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart to a pilot in the Chinese area.

This symbolizes a spearheading effort in infrastructure-supported driverless parking while marking the first pilot of its kind in the Chinese region as both companies collaborate to enable vehicles proceed to an assigned space while allowing further retrieval via smartphone in supported environments.

Further testing of this tech will be made at the by Daimler and Bosch at the Mercedes-Benz Research and Development Center to proceed on its efforts with this service.

Automated Valet Parking has the capacity to ease hassles involved in the parking process at modern and urban parking environments where shortages of parking spots and location of suitable parking spaces bring about inconveniences to drivers.

The parking journey begins when the user parks the vehicle in a delegated drop-off before sending for parking on the smartphone app, The command is then recognized by the intelligent system infrastructure for the car park which triggers the vehicle to autonomously get to an assigned parking space.

Sensors in the car park monitors the driving passage and its environment while guiding the vehicle to its parking spot with the vehicle’s onboard technology providing for safe maneuvering in response to commands from the embedded intelligent car park infrastructure while enabling a stop in good time when necessary.

Head of Mercedes-Benz Research and Development China Dr. Hans Georg Engel stated “Automated Valet Parking is an important milestone on the road towards autonomous driving. Through our strong partnership with Bosch, we will adapt this technology to meet local needs. In the process, we will not only convenience vehicle owners, saving them time and energy, but also do our part to help bring automated driving technology to the next level.”

Automated Valet Parking is another new endeavor for Bosch and Daimler to strive for ‘accident free, stress free and emission free’ future mobility. Automated Valet Parking makes manually parking a thing of the past and helps vehicle owners to save time and ease stress. This pilot also demonstrates Bosch’ transformation into a mobility service provider in close collaboration with our long-term strategic partner Daimler in the Chinese market.” Bosch’s President of Connected Mobility Solutions in China Ming Chen also added, narrating efforts by both German engineering powerhouses in delivering this tech.
