Facebook is considering taking over a 188,000-square-foot retail space from Neiman Marcus, the department store chain which recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, news site Women’s Wear Daily reports. The space, in particular, is located at Hudson Yards, a 28-acre mega-development in the Manhattan area. Neiman Marcus, a famed luxury store chain, is allowed to back out of its existing lease on the retail space without penalties due to filing for bankruptcy, and Facebook has apparently spotted an opportunity for new offices. In Hudson Yards, Facebook has already signed leases for more than 1.5 million square feet of space.
In April, Facebook chief operating officer (COO) Sheryl Sandberg said the company was looking to add 10,000 new workers this year alone. Of that number, a sizeable amount will be located in New York City, where Facebook already maintains large offices. A 188,000-square-foot space surely seems to be a significant potential addition to Facebook’s office footprint.
