GoEuro raises $150 million from Kinnevik, Temasek and Hillhouse at reported $1 billion valuation

German travel and fare booking startup GoEuro has raised $150 million in new funding from Swedish investment firm Kinnevik AB, Temasek Holdings and Hillhouse Capital which doubles the company’s total capital raised and provides more capital for advancement of GoEuro’s operations through acceleration of product innovation and expansion into new markets.

Kinnevik and Temasek co-led this round with further participation from Hillhouse Capital, As part of this deal, Kinnevik head Cristina Stenbeck will be joining GoEuro’s board of directors, The Kinnevik principal shareholder is also notable for holding a board seat on Spotify and previously occupying the position of chairman at Zalando.

Berlin based GoEuro launched 5 years ago as a metasearch engine and has grown to operating a leading multi-modal transport booking platform in the European region with 80% of its transport providers making direct sales on its platform.

It last raised funding 2 years ago and since then has scaled to now offering ground and air travel options in 36 countries across Europe with full coverage in 15 of those markets.

“Over the past five years, we’ve brought most European transportation onto our platform, creating a simple, consistent and familiar experience for our customers. We see extraordinary potential to transform travel booking by expanding our platform to the fragmented, mostly offline systems for managing transport globally.” GoEuro founder and CEO Naren Shaam said in a statement.

“Having Kinnevik, Temasek and Hillhouse as investors complements our vision for driving growth across our business, as we help people around the world book their travel more easily and quickly.” Shaam also stated.
