Just after recently announcing new signees including the ride-hailing company Uber and JetBlue Airways, the e-commerce giant Amazon has yet again announced that 13 new companies have joined its Climate Pledge initiative, which entails a commitment to be net-zero carbon by 2040, a decade ahead of the landmark Paris Agreement’s goal of 2050.

Among the 13 new signees include the software giant Microsoft, notable as one of the biggest companies from the global technology industry. Others who signed include; Atos, the French IT company; Brooks, the sports equipment company; British property company Canary Wharf Group; consumer goods giant Unilever; Coca-Cola European Partners; management consulting firm ERM; Groupe SEB France; Harbour Air; ITV; Neste; Rubicon; and Vaude.

With the 13 new signees, there are now a total of 31 companies that have signed to Amazon’s Climate Pledge. Recent signees along with Uber and JetBlue Airways include the automaker Mercedes Benz, the Spanish ride-hailing company Cabify, the electric carmaker Rivian, and the aerospace startup Boom Supersonic.

Amazon itself has mammoth e-commerce operations that consume lots of fossil fuels and has committed to be net-zero carbon by 2040. The company has laid out plans to buy tens of thousands of electric vehicles for its logistics operations in a bid to reach its goal.

Climate initiatives have been a focus for Amazon as well its founder Jeff Bezos in personal endeavors, wherein just last month, he gave out $791 million in donations to a group of non-profit organizations tackling climate change.
