Tesla is now officially ending its offer of free and unlimited Supercharger access to customers putting a stop to the incentive which was expected to have ended early last year but was extended for its EV owners.
As pointed out by Tesla CEO Elon Musk in a tweet, After the 16th of September, full unlimited Supercharging will go away and owners will be able to send friends $100 in Supercharging credit which just might be enough for a few fills.
This comes as Tesla makes several moves to cut costs and boost business operations as it aims to turn profits in coming times to up its stance in the public markets which has brought scrutiny and a vast amount of short-sellers betting on the company’s stock.
This move although quite necessary may reduce the number of Supercharger visits as customers would now be required to pay for charges and may prefer the other route of charging through chargers installed at homes for convenience.
Overcrowding at its Supercharger stations would likely reduce from this which Tesla won’t plausibly mind as this has stood as minor hassles for its EV owners looking to charge their vehicles on public charging networks.
Nevertheless, This still represents the end of a notable period for the EV manufacturer’s user base who are attracted by several incentives like this to purchase its vehicles.
