Google’s Science Fair competition is now up for entries this year aiming to garner creative solutions from global thinkers, problem solvers and dreamers for application to various essential fields ranging from tech to medicine to agriculture to a vast collection of fields with an aim of improving the global ecosystem.
The competition of which the first version originally kicked off in 2011 is now open for entries for this year till the 12th of December with the winner getting a prize of a $50,000 scholarship and 20 global finalists heading to the Googleplex to share their projects and also be in the running for prizes and scholarships from the likes of Lego Education, National Geographic, Scientific American, and Virgin Galactic.
The most recent grand prize winner of the Google Science Fair was Kiara Nirghi, An 18 year old woman from South Africa passionate about discovering new ways to protect the environment winning with an idea to save plants from drought using fruits.
Other previous winners span from research on chemotherapy, study of the effects of air quality on lungs, research on whether marinades reduce the amount of cancer-causing compounds produced by the grilling of meat, a “Global Neural Network Cloud Service for Breast Cancer”, examination of microscopic creatures in aquatic ecosystems and several other breakthrough fields.
