Presented at the China House Vision architecture exhibition event this year is the MINI Living Urban Cabin concept stemming from BMW’s intuitive design standards with this innovative micro-apartment concept developed in cooperation with Chinese architect Dayong Sun offering maximum living quality for a minimum space while packed with luxurious, essential and desirable accommodation amenities.
The Urban Cabin in Beijing stands as the 4th interpretation of the urban housing concept developed by MINI LIVING last year notable for its provision of temporary living space with a high degree of flexibility and lots of possibilities set on a surface area of just 15 meter square.
MINI
The housing concept counts a particular design focus on local identity and culture with a new one unveiled in Beijing after stops in London, LA and New York.
Its central theme explores how space can be utilized in an innovative way for creation of a new sense of community and maximum quality of living even with a minimal area for the consumer.

The concept is inspired by the Hutongs common in Beijing’s more traditional districts which stands as a hallmark feature for the city’s architectural history. Hutong residences consist of courtyard buildings and passageways particularly appreciated for the combination of private withdrawal spaces and communal living areas which they bring about.
This model has gradually faded off the urban landscape in response to demographic change with the MINI LIVING Urban Cabin in Beijing reflecting its principle while returning the Hutong to a modern age.

“Each MINI Living Urban Cabin creates maximum quality of living within a very limited space in a specific situational context”, explains Oke Hauser, The project’s Creative Lead. “The result is a global network of creative residential solutions in which people all over the world feel at home, while at the same time providing a public space for innovative forms of co-living”.
The MINI Living is focused on forward-looking stimuli for a blend of residential architecture focused on a need for individuality, flexibility and community.

The concept stands as a depiction of creative possibilities packed with micro-apartments for residential areas, In the Shanghai region, MINI is collaborating with Chinese project developer NOVA Property Investment Co. to turn an idle industrial complex located in the Jing’An district into a facility consisting of work spaces, apartments, cultural and leisure facilities.
It brings about maximum flexibility for residents with units of differing sizes packed in a vibrant and urban landscape.
