Interactive fitness startup Tonal has announced that it’s raised $110 million in new funding from investors including private equity firm L Catterton, Shasta Ventures, Mayfield, THVC, and the Amazon Alexa Fund as well as popular professional basketballers Stephen Curry and Paul George along with golfer Michelle Wie. The new funding brings the total amount of funding raised by Tonal since its inception to $200 million. Tonal says it’ll use the new funding to accelerate its marketing initiatives and scale its supply chain and logistics to meet up with what it terms as an “unprecedented” demand for its product. Tonal says sales in 2020 have ballooned 12x compared to the previous year. It’s such that Tonal has opened three new offices and established a retail presence in 15 new markets across the US this year.

Tonal’s core product is an interactive home gym equipment that comes with tools for home exercise as well as an interactive display screen for live fitness sessions. Primarily a home gyming equipment, Tonal is also targeting physical therapy usage by partnering with healthcare company Mayo Clinic to conduct a clinical trial with results expected to be released early next year. Tonal sells its equipment directly to consumers and also to hospitality and fitness companies. For example, Tonal has clinched partnerships with hotel and resort chains such as the Four Seasons Palo Alto to install its equipment in hotel rooms. Before now, Tonal was backed by star athletes including Serena Williams, Klay Thompson, and Tony Gonzalez. The company has now added more of such backers including pro basketballers Stephen Curry and Paul George to that list.

Tonal was founded in 2015. The company is based in the city of San Francisco, California.
