As time fast approaches towards a scheduled antitrust hearing from the CEOs of Apple, Amazon, Facebook, and Google, U.S. Representative Jim Jordan, notably the top Republican on the U.S. House Judiciary Committee, is vying to invite Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to be an addition to the hearing. Jordan penned a letter to the Democratic committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler asking that Dorsey also attend the hearing which is scheduled for the 27th of July. Going by the content of his letter, the U.S. Representative is seeking Dorsey’s attention to primarily address concerns and inquiries surrounding moderation of content on its platform as well as a recent security breach that rocked the company.
“We believe there is bipartisan interest to hear from Twitter about its power in the marketplace, its role in moderating content on its platform and the causes for its recent highly publicized security breaches,” Jordan penned in his letter.
U.S. Republicans have often criticized Twitter for what they term as systematic censoring of conservatives but the social media company has, however, constantly denied such allegation. Facebook has also been a target of similar criticism. Unlike the tech giants whose chief executives are set to testify on the 27th of July, however, Twitter has largely escaped allegations of engaging in anti-competitive practices and seems safe in that space.
