Alphabet’s Waymo autonomous driving unit has now hit another main milestone as the company’s lead John Krafcik just recently made known in an interview with Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval at the National Governors Association conference held in the city of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

This statistic amounts to a figure of about 25,000 miles driven everyday by Waymo which makes it vehicle network way more experienced and being ahead of several competitors in the autonomous driving space.

Last year November, Waymo announced its vehicles had clogged over 4 million miles on the road with this number now doubling in less than a year and also increasing by 1 million in the span of a month between June and July which counts a very good record as Waymo continues to make efforts to expand its vehicle fleet to boost up its autonomous efforts.

The vast amount of miles driven by Waymo’s vehicles and Waymo CEO Krafcik’s stated “5 Billion miles in simulation” provides for huge input of data into Waymo’s AI system which its vehicles apply to learn from virtual situations that might not be encountered during its road journey in the intense efforts of making autonomous driving as safe and reliable as possible for commuters.

Waymo has began trialing its self driving vehicles to several passengers in Arizona with over 400 drivers signed up to the early rider service taking the opportunity of riding in Waymo’s autonomous vehicles while delivering feedback for the companies and reviews for the company for more ways to greatly improve its autonomous vehicle system.

Waymo plans to add more people to its program and expects to begin its paid taxi service later this year which will see much more people get to use its self-driving vehicles to commute between locations.

Waymo notably also took recent delivery of its Jaguar I-PACE high-end vehicles which adds to its autonomous fleet and with a partnership with Jaguar Land Rover plans to add up to 20,000 I-PACEs to Waymo’s fleet in the next few years which could see Waymo’s service offer up to a about a million trips in a single day for various communities and regions.
