Content management company Episerver has reached a deal to acquire Optimizely, a fairly popular San Francisco-based startup that develops tools to help companies manage and test different versions of websites. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed but for a hint, Optimizely has raised north of $100 million in venture capital funding and was valued at $600 million from its last funding round (PitchBook data). Among investors in Optimizely include notable names such as Salesforce Ventures, Citi Ventures, Goldman Sachs, and actor Ashton Kutcher.

Optimizely’s acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter of this year. Episerver, the acquirer, is a content management company founded way back in 1994 and scooped up by investment firm Insight Partners in 2018. Insight Partners paid roughly $1.2 billion for outright ownership of the company and is apparently working to expand its operations with Optimizely’s acquisition. Episerver currently employs more than 800 people globally, about double Optimizely’s own nearly 400 employee count.
