Electric vehicle upstart Lucid Motors has announced that it’ll debut a production version of the Lucid Air, its long-touted flagship electric car, in September of this year. The announcement comes six months after Lucid Motos began constructing a large factory in the U.S. state of Arizona. Lucid originally planned to debut its first electric vehicle at the New York International Auto Show, but which was recently canceled for this year in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Currently, Lucid Motors has 1,000+ employees working towards the mass production of the Lucid Air and plans to add 700 more by the end of this year.
Lucid had to close its production facility for a while due to the coronavirus pandemic. Employees of the company are now returning on a phased approach guided by local and state mandates. None of Lucid’s employees were laid off or furloughed during the production halt. In September, Lucid will reveal the final interior and exterior designs of the Lucid Air as well as its price, specifications, and available configurations. Lucid is expected to complete the phase one build of its production factory in the state of Arizona this year, and start producing vehicles by next year.
The Lucid Air will be capable of moving 400 miles on a full charge and accelerating from 0 to 60 miles-per-hour (mph) in under 2.5 seconds, according to Lucid. Other specifics on the vehicle have not been given.
