Nissan is set to make its official on-track debut at the ABB FIA Formula E championship preseason event taking place next week with its Formula E race car which features a bespoke electric motor, inverter and gearbox among other features aimed at high-level EV racing.
Being the first Japanese company to enter the Formula E, It’s also taking on brand partnership with the Royal Dutch Shell for the event which will see Nissan’s e.dams team conduct three days of testing at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, Spain alongside 10 other teams competing in the all-electric racing championship event.
The company is leveraging its experience in building electric cars for the road for the development of an all-new powertrain for its own Formula E race car.
“Formula E represents the performance side of Nissan Intelligent Mobility – our vision for changing how cars are powered, driven and integrated into society,” Roel de Vries, Nissan’s global head of brand and marketing said in a statement. “As the world leader in delivering electric cars to consumers, we’re eager to work with a renowned energy company like Shell to promote zero-emission mobility through this championship.”
