GitHub has announced it has acquired Dependabot, a tool that aids developers steer clear of introducing security issues via bugs in open-source libraries. GitHub is directly integrating the service, which will now be free, even with refunds for users that paid for future months. Now, users will also be able to configure Dependabot within GitHub without the use of the Dependabot dashboard.

The existing Dependabot app has been ramed to Dependabot Preview and will remain available in the GitHub Marketplace. GitHub has doubled the number of people working on Dependabot and is promising “lots of great improvements over the coming months.”
